But if the internal drive cant be seen by Disk Utility when the Mac Mini is started.Today I plugged in a 6 TB WD My Book and it crapped out. Choose 1 Partition from the volume scheme and then click on Options.or goes to the Apple and boots up (as it did with my backup drive). Start the Disk Utility and select the external drive. If the formatting process as seen under Mac OS X has failed but the drive can be successfully formatted on a PC or another computer, try following procedure instead. Everything seemed to be good.Apple Partition Map on Mac OS 10.5. Head below for our exclusive promo and more on one of 9to5’s go-to maintenance utilities for Mac.I upgraded my iMac to High Sierra a couple days ago.One Old WD Elements 1TB, and one brand new one. I then took it to my MacBook and was able to partition it there.THREE DRIVES FAILED IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES.Is there something going on with High Sierra and external drives, and if so, what can I do? I'm terrified of plugging in another drive for fear of losing all of my data!I'm having the same issue. I was able to see it in Disk Utilities but I wasn't able to format it or repartition it. So I went to Best Buy to buy a new external drive (so I could back up my Drobo, as my previous backup is on the 6 TB drive that borked), plugged in the new drive and it immediately crapped out too. Looks like I'll have to spend $100 on Disk Warrior and pray that it will fix it.I then plugged in my Drobo to my iMac and one of the drives failed. I then took the drive over to my MacBook running El Capitan and it won't even show up in Disk Utilities.

It's NOT a cable issue, since I use a MiniDisplayport/ USB-C on the new iMac (2017) High Sierra but a MiniDisplayport/MiniDisplayport on the old iMac (2011) Seirra and laptop (2013) High Sierra. Drobo DOES work on my old iMac (2011) running Sierra, but NOT on my new iMac (2017) and MacBook Pro (2013) running High Sierra. Drobo does not mount and is not recognized by Disk Utility on High Sierra machines. Had been using a Drobo 17TB as a RAID system for both my Time Machine and Lightroom Archive (work on files locally then retire finished folders to the Drobo archive). I assume this problem is where a lot of people are stuck right now.I'm going to have an advanced support call in an hour, perhaps they can help me restore the old drive without losing anything. Also having issues with external drives since upgrading to High Sierra. Assuming this would have worked, it's not an option for me.- With Apple Support, I went through the whole series of tests, they haven't yet placed blame on the WD Elements drives (probably because the problem was reproducible on the out of box device on both machines).- we were able to get the new drive recognized by rebooting and clearing parameter RAM (restart and hold keys: until machines reboots again).- After doing that I was at least able to use Disk Utility to erase and reformat the brand new drive.- Unfortunately, the old drive (which presumably isn't actually damaged or failing) still doesn't appear after clearing parameter RAM. Why that OS? I hate Apple upgrades, as things always break and 3rd party SW has to be upgraded. Here's why I say this:My system, prior to was a MacBookPro9.2 (mid 2012) running 10.8.5. I think they did something in 10.13.2, perhaps to the firmware update they made, and possibly, to harm competitors that make drives and enclosures. Drobo was zero help, just gave me the most up to date version of Drobo dashboard.Latest update I have is when running some sysdiagnose, the engineers said the system was not even recognizing the USB-C port as being utilizedI think all you folks are chasing your tails and Apple is the culprit here. We've tried a few things and so far no luck. Is NOT an all drives issue, as my SeaGate 1TB external and Lacie 1TB portable mount with no issues.Have an open ticket with Apple for about a week now that has been pushed onto the engineers. Interestingly, the Apple store upgrade wiped the 10.8.2 Recovery image on the SSD, leaving me with no Recovery image on that drive. The HDD inside that enclosure is not bootable, neither the standard image nor the Recovery image though it is readable. No issues and CCC even created a 10.13.2 Recovery image. I upgraded to an SSD inside the Mac, and after 5 days of testing, used Carbon Copy Cloner 5.0.5 to clone the SSD to an HDD inside an OWC/Mac.Sales On-The-Go enclosure. So, R is very important to me so I upgraded to 10.13.2 from the Apple store. I loath the Apple phone so 10.8.5 suited me just fine, until I needed some R bits complied for Sierra. Or, 10.13.2 is still flaky. Man, does that make me suspicious.Apple, you did this, I suspect, to harm hardware manufacturers who make competitive devices. CCC can write to a disk inside this enclosure and create a perfect OS image, but the error occurs at boot time when the bits are being read. Also interestingly, the problem is not bidirectional. Now folks, get this, the HDD when inside the machine boots perfectly, both standard and Recovery images but when the SSD, which received the bits from the Apple store, is inside the OWC enclosure, it will not boot. Bummer! After several days of troubleshooting with a CCC support engineer, with zero success, I was left with no option other than to swap the SSD and the HDD to nail down whether it was the enclosure or CCC at fault. Dolphin emulator unblocked download macThe RAID appliance has 10.8.5 on it and I could, if I had to, revert to that version, which totally *****. I also have a NewerTech 1TB RAID appliance I use as my second nightly backup, and I have disabled the backup task until I get resolution on this issue.
